Lucy Barlow is the Senior Yoga Teacher at, and Founder of, Portsmouth Yoga Studio. From complete beginners to experienced yoga teachers Lucy welcomes all to find and deepen their personal practice.
Lucid Yoga is Lucy's own blend of styles and practices, with a strong core of authentic classical yoga, weaving together her influences from Ashtanga to Iyengar, Kundalini to Yoga Nidra, and more. Lucy has practised yoga for over 24 years, and has been teaching since 2005. She is a registered Senior Yoga Teacher with Yoga Alliance Professionals, and holds the Devon School of Yoga Post-Graduate Diploma in Yoga Therapy. She is also a Birthlight Perinatal Yoga Teacher, and has completed her initiatory training with Birthing from Within, offering positive pregnancy, birth and parenting classes to women, and their birth partners.
Sam Carter is our newest yoga teacher. He offers a modern, physical practice that is in line with the traditional foundations of yoga.
Sam's classes offer students of all ages and abilities the opportunity to refresh the body and to build strength and balance.
Donna Poingdestre is an experienced yoga teacher, teaching classes that are relevant to people of all levels of health and ability.
Donna's passion is to make yoga accesible and of benefit to all, no matter where they are in their lives and bodies. Her classes incorporate functional movement to allow you to find ease in body and mind, while exploring your limits and expectations at your own pace.
The studio is dedicated to providing you with a calm, fully equipped space in which to practice. The light, spacious environment offers you a peaceful retreat from your busy life.
We're a warm, welcoming studio. As long as we have a free mat, you're welcome to drop in! Drop-in sessions are £11, classes are cheaper if you want to bulk buy. You can check if we have free mats on this website, on our Facebook or Twitter pages, or just come by and try your luck.
Doors will be open from ten minutes before the class begins and will close promptly at the scheduled time.
What to bring
Nothing! Just arrive dressed to move and breathe freely - we practice barefoot and request footwear and socks be removed on arrival.

There are no gimmicks at Portsmouth Yoga Studio, only dedicated teachers who will encourage you to explore this ancient practice in a way that is sustainable and has long lasting benefits to your physical, mental & emotional health.
We have a diverse group of core teachers who between them have over 40 years experience of practising yoga and over 26 years of teaching experience. We share a common background in our training, and have all furthered our knowledge & insight with further study.
Lucy & Donna are both registered as Senior Yoga Teachers with Yoga Alliance Professionals, allowing them to create & offer innovative Teacher Training and CPD, and have already trained over 12 teachers to begin their own successful careers in sharing the joy & peace of yoga, Sam qualified with Lucy & Donna in 2016, and holds the RYT200 with Yoga Alliance International, and has quickly established himself as a well-respected teacher in the local area.
Lucy began teaching in Southsea in 2005, and since then has also qualified in Perinatal Yoga for Pregnancy and the Post Natal Period with the Birthlight Trust, and in Yoga Therapy with the Devon School of Yoga. She integrates her understanding & practice of therapeutic approaches, Iyengar, Ashtanga and Kundalini into her teaching, creating a blend that she calls Lucid Yoga. Students will learn to calm their minds, open their hearts and love their bodies under Lucy's compassionate guidance.
Donna has studied anatomy & intelligent movement with Natural Bodies, and her in-depth understanding of the human body underpins her approach to bringing her students to a practice that brings them ease and confidence in their yoga and in daily life.
Sam takes a traditional stance to providing a disciplined & well-rounded practice that is accessible to all. Students will experience a balance of strength and flexibility as they explore yoga under Sam's guidance, In learning from Sam, you will acquire more than a simply physical practice, and feel equipped for life off the mat.
